📜 What is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960?
The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (Act 59 of 1960) is India’s core animal welfare law. It creates the Animal Welfare Board of India, defines and penalises cruelty, regulates animal experiments and performing animals, and empowers authorities to search, seize, and ensure care for animals. Subsequent rules under this Act govern areas like transport, pet shops, dog breeding, and case-property animals.
पशुओं के प्रति क्रूरता का निवारण अधिनियम, 1960 (अधिनियम सं. 59, 1960) भारत का मूल पशु कल्याण कानून है। यह पशु कल्याण बोर्ड ऑफ इंडिया की स्थापना करता है, क्रूरता के रूपों व दण्डों को परिभाषित करता है, पशुओं पर प्रयोग तथा प्रदर्शन करने वाले पशुओं को विनियमित करता है, और अधिकारियों को तलाशी, जब्ती तथा उपचार/देखभाल के अधिकार प्रदान करता है। इस अधिनियम के तहत विभिन्न नियम परिवहन, पालतू दुकानों, कुत्ता प्रजनन और केस-प्रॉपर्टी पशुओं जैसे विषयों को नियंत्रित करते हैं।
